Dr. Hassanieh was born and raised in Beirut, Lebanon, during the grueling years of political turmoil, civil wars, and invasions. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA), and her PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Southern California (USC). She worked as a research scientist in the field of Angiogenesis, and published her work in several scientific books and journals. Dr. Hassanieh wrote her debut visionary novel—Where Will My Heart Beat? to spark the conversation about the mystery of the human experience.

Ramen H. Chmait, MD, established and has served as the Director of Los Angeles Fetal Surgery at University of Southern California (USC) since 2006. This program is affiliated with Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) and is currently housed at Huntington Memorial Hospital. His main clinical focus is treatment of the fetus via minimally invasive fetal surgery. Dr. Chmait also directs a research program devoted to understanding fetal disease and investigating potential therapeutic modalities. He has published over 150 peer reviewed journal articles and textbook chapters.

Judge Tony Raphael was born in Beirut, Lebanon. He moved to the United States in 1985 at the age of 15. After a career as a federal prosecutor with the United States Department of Justice and in private practice, Judge Raphael was appointed by Governor Jerry Brown to the Superior Court of California, County of San Bernardino. Judge Raphael presently presides over a felony trial department.
