Safeguarding of Children in Lebanon

HELP US BY DONATING

Acsauvel is a Civil Association for the Safeguarding of Children in Lebanon, established as a nonprofit organization in 1979. At present, the organization provides a home for 76 children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

Acsauvel operates two educational departments: the Specialized Education Center for children aged 3 to 17 (C.A.R.1.S) and the Protected Workshop (C.A.T), which caters to adults aged 18 and above. The organization’s mission encompasses education, the development of life skills, and the promotion of self-actualization.

The cost of educating a child at Acsauvel amounts to approximately $2,500 per year.

Facing increased living costs, inflation, and the broader economic crisis, Acsauvel has experienced a departure of several members from the psycho-social and pedagogical support team who sought better-paid employment elsewhere. The current employee salaries are insufficient to cover basic living expenses.

Despite these challenges, Acsauvel is striving to establish a sustainable, self-financed income structure. The organization secures international support to provide additional benefits to its team and generates revenue by selling handmade kitchen and embroidery products.

Notably, the embroidery workshop constitutes a significant monthly income source.

Acsauvel aims to expand its embroidery workshop further to enhance its income and bolster its self-financing capacity. The organization receives requests from clients for additional embroidery work and seeks to acquire an extra embroidery machine ( $17,000) to meet these demands and boost its overall income. Unfortunately, without assistance, Acsauvel will be unable to make this crucial investment.

The dedicated team and administrative board at Acsauvel confront these challenges daily in their efforts to secure the organization’s future. If Acsauvel were to close down, the children it currently serves would be deprived of an alternative educational setting, potentially leading to their days being spent in front of a TV or in the kitchen. This situation would inevitably result in their marginalization and regression
